And mine runs against the grain: there is nothing wrong with how you built your business. Simplify, then scale.
I'm Beth. Thirty years in, 350 businesses mentored, and a career that started inside Pfizer and the NHS. That take is the opposite of most of the advice your listeners are given, which is exactly what makes it a good conversation. Said in plain words they can act on the same week.

Owners are told they are great at the craft and poor at the business. After 350 of them, I can tell you that story costs more than it corrects.
Almost every owner reaches for more. More marketing, more people, more activity. How to tell whether the business in front of you needs to simplify or scale, because getting that backwards is expensive.
Growth is supposed to get easier. It gets heavier instead, and nobody warns owners about the stage in between. What that feeling is actually telling you, and why it is a signal rather than a failure.
Experts do decades of serious work and never put their name to it. I did it myself. Why that happens, what it costs, and what changes when they stop.
Why the "great technician, poor businessperson" story is wrong, and what expert owners should do instead.
Why, past a certain point, more help makes a business heavier, and what actually lightens the load.

Business mentor · Non-executive director · Founder, Simplify & Scale
Beth has spent thirty years working out why capable organisations stall. She has been employed by Pfizer and the NHS, has run her own healthcare innovation consultancies, and has contracted with Deloitte. Much of that work was national innovation programmes, where nothing happens unless someone can make it happen across organisations that do not answer to each other. She sits as a non-executive director, currently with WM5G and the Willow Tree Foundation. For the last twenty years her work has been inside owner-led businesses, mentoring 350+ of them internationally, from healthcare to construction, on publicly funded growth programmes as well as her own. Her conclusion has not changed in thirty years: there is nothing wrong with how you built your business. The work is to simplify what is already there, then scale it.
